When life as we know it is flipped upside down, we struggle to make sense of it all. Why would a good God allow this to happen? Hi, I’m Sherrie Pilkington, your host of Finding God In Our Pain. In 2018, when I unexpectedly lost my husband of 32 years, questions erupted out of my deepest despair. Since then, I’ve continued to search the heart of God for what He has to say about pain and suffering. In this podcast we’ll discover how God enters into our pain, shepherds us through our darkest valleys, and leads us to green pastures once again. I’ll bring you firsthand stories from women who allow us into their authentic struggles, along with professional advice from experts, counselors, and others who can help us navigate pain. Join me, as we discover God’s answers to the deepest cries of our shattered hearts.

Lorrie Grant - Saving Her Daughter from Alcohol
For the first time, guest Lorrie Grant is ready to share her personal story of making every effort possible with the goal of saving her daughter from alcohol. Lorrie shares the journey of despair, trying her best to move heaven and earth as she watched her youngest daughter, Kelsey sink deeper into alcoholism. Trying anything and everything until Lorrie herself could no longer bear up under the weight of living for the both of them.
We often hear an alcoholics story from their perspective but we rarely get to hear it through the eyes and heart of the loved ones who care for them. The toll it takes on the heart, the feelings of helplessness and fear that overwhelms. Doing absolutely anything humanly possible to save them and yet never getting to the end of the anxiety; never being free of the thought that they won’t make it to their next birthday, never free of thinking it will be your fault if they
What a powerful story of a mother who gave it her all and then at the point of breaking she lays it all down. Choosing to take God at His word, to trust Him with her daughter’s life. Believing that He loved Kelsey and that He was capable of what Lorrie was not.
My heart was most moved when Lorrie shared how she came to the realization that in her efforts to save her daughter she was enabling her. The deepest desire of a mother's heart is to save her daughter and yet she was not equipping Kelsey but rather setting her up for failure.
Lorrie had to make some very tough decisions that left her feeling as though she was abandoning her daughter, rejecting her, leaving her to die. As a mother, these decisions waged war on every fiber of her being.
I hope your heart finds encouragement to know that even if the life you envision for your children does not look like what you thought it would or should, it’s still good. There's a beautiful testimony of God’s faithfulness in the midst of a very real fight for the life of your children.
